GAME: What Time is it Mr. Wolf? TYPE: Pursuit and Evade
CYCLE: I, II ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate
TACTICS: Listening, reaction time, communication, run and chase, etc.
QEP: Reference points, being receptive to others’ messages, chasing, etc.
DESCRIPTION
Layer 1: Students line up on the starting line, facing towards the playing surface. The teacher stands in front of them and asks class to repeat, “What Time is it Mr Wolf?”
Layer 2: Students practice saying “What Time is it Mr Wolf” as the teacher and class begin to walk towards the other end of the playing surface. Every time the students ask “What Time is it Mr Wolf?” the teacher responds by saying # o’clock. When the teacher answers “LUNCHTIME”, the students turn around and run back to the starting line. At this point, the teacher pretends to chase the students.
Layer 3: A Wolf Pack made up of three to five students is put into play. As the Wolf Pack walks towards the end of the playing surface, the students follow while asking “What Time is it Mr. Wolf”. When the teacher yells “LUNCHTIME”, the Wolf Pack turns and chases the students while they themselves are trying to run back to their starting line. If a student is tagged, that student becomes part of the Wolf Pack.
Layer 4: Wolf Pack decides when to call out “LUNCHTIME”.
MODIFICATIONS:
- Implement tagging instruments (noodles, balls, etc).
- Students are paired up using pinnies.
- Different groups; last team left wins.
SAFETY:
- Follow your lane, turn around and run straight; no zigzagging.
- Slow down before the starting line.
- Appropriate tagging; no tripping, pushing or punching.
