GAME: Throwball TYPE: Striking and Fielding
CYCLE: II, III ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate-High

QEP: Communication, throwing and catching an object, moving the opponent, etc.
DESCRIPTION
Layer 1: Students are divided into groups of eight to ten, placed at a station and given a bat and ball. Two teams of four or five are set up; one team is the batting team and the other is the fielding team. Batting team lines up behind home plate with the ball while the fielding team has three students placed in the field (shortstop and outfielders) and one student occupying their first base. Objective is for the batting team to throw and bounce the ball between the designated cones and sprint to first their base before the fielding team can recover the ball and pass it to their first baseman. The ball must bounce before reaching the cones. One point is given to batting team if they make it to first base and one point is received to fielding team if batter is struck out. Each batter has a turn before the two teams switch positions.
Layer 2: Second base and second baseman are added. The first student to throw from the batting team must run to first base. As the second batter throws the ball and runs to first base, the first batter must run to second base. The fielding team must try a double play. They must recover the ball, throw it to the second baseman, and then throw to the first baseman in order to strike out both students. Point is received for batting team if a runner makes it to second base. Point is received to fielding team if double play is accomplished.
Layer 3: Third base and third baseman are added.
MODIFICATIONS:

- Bigger teams of students; 3 strikes you’re out rule.
