GAME: Over the Top TYPE: Net and Wall
CYCLE: II, III ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate
TACTICS: Finding open player, send over the net/students, etc.
QEP: Catching and sending object to the opponent, blocking the object, movements of body, etc.
DESCRIPTION
Layer 1: Students are placed into teams of six, given a ball and placed in a badminton court. Students are paired up to make three teams of two; one team at one end, one team in the middle acting as the net, and the other team at the other end. The team that begins with ball must serve underhand to their opponent team without having the net students block the ball. Net students are only allowed to locomote sideways and jump up; no forward or backward movements. Once opposing team receives ball, they serve it over back to the other team. Students switch roles after five successful serves have made it across, or the net students have blocked three.
Layer 2: Opposing teams do not want to pass it to the other team, but instead want to score a point. In order to score a point, the ball has to bounce in the opponents’ zone or the student drops the ball. If the net students stop the ball from going over, they receive the point. Switch roles after three serves on each side or if net players stop two.
MODIFICATIONS:
- Implement a bounce rule.
- Increase the amount of students per team.
- Overhand serving.
SAFETY:
- Ball must be served at least shoulder height.
- Implement soft foam ball.
- Net students must face the serving team; serving team cannot serve until net students face them.
