GAME: Chuck the Chicken TYPE: Striking and Fielding
CYCLE: I, II, III ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate
TACTICS: Throwing in open space, teamwork, remember sequence, etc.
QEP: Receptive to others’ messages, synchronization, roles, using space available, etc.
DESCRIPTION
Layer 1: The class is divided into two teams and are given a sequence of chuckers. Students must remember their sequence. Students practice moving around as a group, but when teacher says, “SEQUENCE”, students get into a line according to their sequence.
Layer 2: Ball is put into play and both teams are against each other. One team begins with the ball and is given to the chucker (first person of the sequence). The chucker yells “CHUCK THE CHICKEN” and throws the ball. The chucking team must then get into a circle and have as many individual runners complete the circle while the other team retrieves ball, line up and pass the ball behind then (by twisting their torsos) to the chucker. This cycle is repeated. The team that gets the most runs is the winner.
MODIFICATIONS:
- Amount of players in the group.
- Have two different games going at the same time: two different coloured balls.
- Different throwing object.
SAFETY:
- Students cannot interfere with the other team.
- Ball cannot be thrown at other students.
- Aware of others when crowding.
