DESCRIPTION
Layer 1: Students are divided into teams of ten to twelve, given a bat and a sponge ball. Two teams of five or six players are created; one team is the batting team and the other is the fielding team. Batting team has one teammate as the pitcher. Objective of the game is for the batting team to score runs by hitting the ball in whichever direction from the batting zone, running to a safe zone at the other end of the playing surface and then running back to original batting zone without being hit by the ball. The bat cannot leave the batting zone; if it does, the player is out. Batting students do not need to run back to zone right away but can wait after several batters have passed. Fielding team must grab the ball after it is hit and attempt to throw the ball at the running batter. When fielding student has the ball in their possession, they cannot locomote. Teams switch positions after three outs or five runs have been scored.
MODIFICATIONS:
- More safe zones distributed along the playing surface.
- Distance to zones increased or decreased.
- Different batting instruments or balls.
SAFETY:
- No headshots or player contact.
- Firm grip on the bat; batting team must line up far away from batter.
- Head scanning and aware of batters running and ball.
