DESCRIPTION
Layer 1: Each student is placed at a specific colour of the parachute and is told to leave it where it is. When the teacher permits, each student rolls the end and grabs it with both hands. No movement follows until the teacher says so. Student who misbehave are warned once; if repeated, they are asked to step back and watch. Students perform these particular activities:
Flutter: On “GO”, each student starts to shake the parachute as fast as possible with their wrists. This effect causes ripples and fast waves in the parachute. When teacher says “STOP”, students stop shaking. In order to make slow and big waves, students must lift forearms and wrists at a slower pace.
Mountain: Students start on their knees. When teacher says “Go”, they raise their hands above their head, drop it quickly back to the floor and then pin it with their knees. This creates a dome formation of the parachute.Students will be asked to climb the mountain by gently pushing and tapping the sides.
Mushroom: Students raise their hands and take a step into the parachute as it is elevated. As the parachute comes down, students must exit.
Popcorn: Several balls are placed into parachute. When teacher says “GO”, students begin to flutter the parachute, making the balls fly inside the parachute.
*Many other formations can be created with the parachute.
MODIFICATIONS:
- Have students let go and run inside.
- Sit down inside the parachute as it comes down
SAFETY:
- Students need to hold on tight to the parachute; handles may break.
- No stepping on the parachute.
