INVASION/TERRITORIAL
Invasion or Territorial activities are those which resemble most common sports like basketball, hockey and soccer. They usually involve two or more teams trying to score in an opponent's zone.
There are four objectives of invasion games; mainting possession, moving forward, trying to score and switching from offence to defence. In this category, students will be able to learn the fundamentals of working effectively with a team by moving, passing and communicating, as well as demonstrating appropriate sporting behaviour.
Common Invasion activities include basketball, soccer, hockey and football. Although, there are other sports that are both individual and team sports related. Some examples include Tchoukball, Prairie Dog Pickoff, Zone Hockey and Crossover.
By engaging students in Invasion/Territorial activities, they will be able to apply the knowledge that they acquire (communicating, feinting, passing and receiving, offence/defens, etc) into other team sports that they will be playing.
