RATIONALE
There are two primary reasons why I decided to do this website rather than the original unit plan:
The first reason being that I am in the Physical and Health Education program and it would be hard to incorporate media into my gymnasium. Our lesson plans are completely different as well as our subject area focuses on Personal Development through Physical Education. It incorporates an introduction, warm up activity and main activities with learning cues and diagrams, as well as a cooldown. Students are there to have a break from the regular classroom structure of sitting behind a desk and looking at the board. The gymnasium is a dynamic and active environment which does not easily accomodate media or technology so therefore, I decided to digitilize my game binder from Basic Games: Principles and Practice.
The second reason is that the online games binder would serve a lot more purpose to my education and career than creating lesson plans for media that I may or may not end up using. Rather than lugging around this giant three inch binder around filled with 60 or so games, I can refer potential employers to this website so that they can see what I have available and what my potential is. This resource is a great tool in not only accessibility to others, but also allows me to share my games and activities with other Phys. Ed. teachers. By implementing my website as a reference to my co-workers, peers or employers, it will allow me to further my possibilities as a soon to be educator. Eventhough I do hope that I teach other course subjects other than Physical Education, for the time being this serves a lot more purpose for teaching and working opportunities.
This online resource binder can also be served to make students' more interested in Physical Education and an active lifestyle:
I remember that when I was in elementary school and high school, we played so many games that I wished I could have remembered and used outside of school. Since children today are brought up with media, accessing the internet and finding activities to play are easy. By digitilizing my games binder, it now allows students that remember playing a certain game to come and see if they can find it on this site. It also allows them a template or idea of how to create their own activities if they wished. By publishing my work on this website, students can also refer back to the activities they've done in class and help them apply it to their everyday lives.
An important aspect of this website is to teach students the importance of physical activities. I encourage students to be playing outside with others peers rather than being stuck inside or trapped in the texting/msn-ing frenzy that youth is drawn to today. Promoting an active lifestyle, as well as developping developmentally appropriate skills through activities is the crucial goal. I want to teach students through games and activities as well as make them more inclined to follow fitness related activities as a lifelong process.
