GAME: Snow Monster TYPE: Special/Foundational Movement
CYCLE: I, II ACTIVITY LEVEL: Low
TACTICS: Cooperation, decision making, directionality, etc.
QEP: Locomotor skills, communication and teamwork, support on feet/hands, etc.
DESCRIPTION
Layer 1: Students are placed in the playing field and told to move around. Students must avoid other students and use different ways of locomoting. The teacher will order students to experiment with different ways to locomote standing and in a crouched position.
Layer 2: Teacher designates two zones: North and South. When the teacher shouts “North”, every student must run to that zone. When everyone has crossed into the zone, everyone can go back out into the playing surface and continue moving around. When the teacher says “South”, students must go to that end.
Layer 3: Teacher implements a snow monster. When the teacher says “Snow Monster”, everyone must get on the floor and join with another student. When everyone is down and joined with another student, the Snow Monster disappears and the students can rise and continue moving around.
Layer 4: Teacher implements new zones: East and West. This time, when the teacher says “Snow Monster”, students must get down and join everyone at the center of the playing field. When everyone arrives, they must decide which zone to go to and move as a team while staying crouched. No classmates must be left behind; everyone must help everyone. When they get to the zone, they get back up and continue moving around.
MODIFICATIONS:
- Snow Monsters can tag and make new Snow Monsters.
- Many zones spread out across the playing surface.
SAFETY:
- Be careful of others when locomoting on ground.
- Do not shove or push students when going to the zone.
