GAME: Group Juggling TYPE: Cooperative/Team Building
CYCLE: I, II, III ACTIVITY LEVEL: Low-Moderate
TACTICS: Throwing and catching, communication, teamwork, etc.
QEP: Receiving and passing objects to teammates, receptive to messages, etc.
DESCRIPTION
Layer 1: Students are placed in a group of 4-5 and are given a ball. They must form a circle/diamond formation and are unable to locomote. The person who has the ball first must call out their name and then pass to a teammate. The teammate that received the ball must call out their name and then pass to a different teammate and so on until the ball returns back to the first passer. Students must continue to pass in the same formation as they began; passing to the same person they initially passed to and receiving from the same person the ball was passed from. When teacher yells “SWITCH”, students must change the rotation of their passes; passing to the person they received from and receiving from the person they passed to.
Layer 2: Name calling is now reversed from their own name to their teammate’s name. When passing the ball, students must call the name of the person they are passing to.
Layer 3: Additional balls and tossing objects are added.
*Teacher modifies groups by sending students to the other groups. This way, everyone gets to know everyone’s name. Students begin from layer 1 until comfortable to move on to next layers.
MODIFICATIONS:
- Different types of passing.
- Various passing objects (football, basketball, etc).
SAFETY:
- Eye contact with students when passing and receiving.
- Appropriate type of ball for different ages/grades.
